Flexing their signature sound, The Sponges take us through an alternate sonic dimension of funk-fueled sampledelia.
The Sponges have dropped their biggest release to date, a five-track EP titled Love. Death. Funk?
Fans are in for a signature Sponges listening experience throughout each of the EP’s stunning four-on-the-floor tracks. The duo, who recently relocated from Miami to Denver, beautifully showcase their distinctive fusion of house and 70’s funk.
The Sponges blend an impressive mix brisk grooves, acid-inspired bass and cheeky vocals, taking us through an alternate sonic dimension of funk-fueled sampledelia.
It all starts with the glitchy space radio-tuning samples on the EP’s intro track, “Who Gives a Sh*T.” From there, The Sponges stun with the funk-fueled party anthem “Do U Wanna?” as well as “Break Of Dawn,” where Skratch Bastid and Smalltown DJs join for a house banger rife with old-school hip-hop flavors and vintage breaks.
All in all, the EP is a another leap forward for The Sponges, who continue to place themselves in a category all their own in the electronic music space. Take a listen to Love. Death. Funk? below.
The Sponges have already made many monumental performances this year, including an appearance at Envision Festival. They’re now gearing up for DJ sets over the summer at Shambhala, Elements, Summer Camp, Dancefestopia, Sonic Bloom and June Jam Festival, among others.
