Chelsea Grin – Suffer in Heaven
Genre: Deathcore
Origin: Salt Lake City, Utah
Label: ONErpm
Buy now from Chelsea Grin
Last November Chelsea Grin dropped Suffer in Hell and now here is the follow up appropriately titled Suffer In Heaven. It keeps that deathcore party started five months ago with eight more tracks. Last year I said, “Suffer In Hell is eight tracks of rage and I can imagine the other eight on Suffer In Heaven will also be heavy as fuck.” and I was right. Heavy as fuck. Jordan has a review for you right here.
Downfall Of Gaia – Silhouettes Of Disgust
Genre: Sludge/post-black metal
Origin: Germany
Label: Metal Blade

Speaking of heavy, here’s the latest journey into epic darkness from Downfall of Gaia. This has loads of atmosphere, lots of fast percussion, but hits with a sludge hammer. It’s a shame this band isn’t bigger. They’re consistently solid and interesting.
Foretoken – Triumphs
Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Virginia Beach, Virginia
Label: Prosthetic
Buy now via Gimme Metal
It’s been a bit since I’ve covered something that looks and feels like battle metal, and it’s time to end that break. The duo of Dan Cooley and Steve Redmond have really dialed in what Foretoken is here and have outdone themselves. This is like a faster paced Amon Amarth with shreddy guitars. A great time.
Harboured – Harboured
Genre: Black/progressive metal
Origin: Denver, Colorado
Label: Lost Futures

When Michael Stancel and Brandon Michael of Allegaeon get some pals from Oak, Ash, & Thorn and Vimana and then decide to get grim, you get Harboured. This has post-rock atmosphere, lots of guitar frettery, and hits different entirely than Allegaeon. This EP is great and I’m excited to hear more from this band already.
Kamelot – The Awakening
Genre: Power/symphonic metal
Origin: Tampa, Florida
Label: Napalm
Buy now via Bandcamp
Thirty-plus years and thirteen albums into their run, Kamelot still find innovative ways to bring the power. The Awakening feels like their heaviest in some time. Perhaps five years of buildup will to that to a band. Also, this time they’re bring a couple guest vocalists in Simone Simons (Epica) and Melissa Bonney (Ad Infinitum) as well as renown cellist Tina Guo.
Night Demon – Outsider
Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Ventura, California
Label: Century Media

Bringing it home with some ripping heavy metal from Night Demon. The band’s first effort since 2017 is a love letter to Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, and the rest. This is leather and studs in sonic form that would pair well with OGs like Diamond Head or new old schoolers Haunt. Shaun’s full review is here.
